    ......  R.I.A. ...  2 ... U.S. ...  N.S., are the readable stamped markings, on this vintage used CAVALRY HORSE CURB BIT,   with a slobber chain and leather strap, made by the Rock Island Arsenal about the late-1800s.
    ......  My photos show the exact item that you are getting, and are a major part of my description.  ~   This old steel bit measures about 5-1/4" across the mouthpiece, and the 7" cheeks have  slightly-curved outward bends at the purchase ends.   ~  This pre-owned U.S. military  bit has noticeable  wear, micro scratches, a darkened metal patina, and faint surface rusting /pitting (as seen in the pictures).    The leather strap is stiff and dry, and the slobber chain is wired-on (at one end).
