Description: 1898 Admiral Dewey Chicago National Peace Jubilee Medal Spanish-American War1898 bronze medal issued during Chicago's National Peace Jubilee in celebration of Dewey's historic victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War.
George Dewey (1837-1917) was an Admiral of the U.S. Navy and remains the only individual to have achieved the rank. He is third to only George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in the amount of numismatics created in his honor.
Dewey became a national icon after he led an attack on Manila Bay, sinking the entire Spanish Pacific fleet while suffering only minor casualties. Dewey's victory at Manila Bay was widely lauded in the United States, and he was subsequently promoted to Admiral of the Navy and celebrated through the production of various medals, tokens, and ephemera.

Approximate Measurements: 38mm in diameter, 1.59mm thick, 55mm from bottom of medallion to top of pin, pin is 41mm wide, .35oz.
Condition:
Very good, antique condition, as found. Very minor scratching, scuffing, and carbon dots throughout. Make-do repair: 17x7mm gray adhesive patch holding pinback on medal. Beautiful, circulated condition, still retaining most of its original luster.
