This is an interesting group of four covers and original enclosed letters from JESSE R. COLE of Wyandot County Ohio who was a member of Company B, 2nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish-American War. He wrote and sent these letters to his friend Howard Joseph Swinehart in Lower Sandusky, Ohio. In the letters he discusses his experiences in training and traveling to various military camps in the U. S. The 2 nd OVI served its term of service within the continental U.S. and did not see any action during the war. Company B from Upper Sandusky, Ohio was mustered into Federal Service between 5/1-6/30, 1898. Howard Joseph Swinehart , the recipient of these letters was born 21 Jan 1883 in Pitt Township Wyandot County and died 23 Jul 1960 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.
