Description
This very scarce (if not rare) uniface pictorial token or fob bears an image of theU. S. S. Maine
, the U. S. battleship that sank in Havana Harbor during the Spanish-American War. The reverse has no design or wording, with a 'pebbled' surface. Noted token authority Russell Rulau catalogued this token as a Maine-Cube A token, numbered Non 5 ('Cube A' used due to site restrictions). Rulau dated it to 1898 and indicated a brass composition.
This token is holed as issued (likely originally a drop or fob on an event badge). The diameter is
approximately 21 mm (13/16")
.
This item is in very good overall condition with relatively light actual wear, signs of handling, toning, and soiling, and it remains bright.
