  • Condition: This is an interesting assortment of letters and documents pertaining to Willard M. Kinney, born 28 Oct 1873 in Seneca County Ohio and married to Alice F. Haines on 22 Mar 1899. He was living in Adrian, Ohio in 1880 and Kenton in 1898 and died in Crawford, Ohio at age 43 on 23 Sep 1917 and was buried in Carey, Ohio. In 1898 during the Spanish-American War he was a member of the 2nd Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. A summary of the items in this lot are listed below.

    Description

    1. August 7, 1918 Adjutant General's Office Mustered Certificate for Willard Kinney as a Private in Company I, 2nd Regiment Ohio Vol. Infantry on 25 April 1898 at        Kenton, Ohio by Captain May until 10 May 1898.  Signed by Roy E. Layton, Adjutant General of Ohio.
    2.  5 page, 12 Dec 1898 handwritten letter from Willard to his future wife, Alice, from Macon, Georgia.
    3. Sept 6, 1918 partially typed letter from the Dept. of The Interior, Bureau of Pensions to Mrs. Alice Kinny in Carey, Ohio.
    4.  June 29, 1920 typed letter from H. G. Chambers of Carey, Ohio which contained Willard's  above 1898 letter to be used by his wife for a pension application, as the letter documents his military service.
    5.  March 25, 1899 cover and letter from Orrvil & Della Young of Leipsic, Ohio sending "....congratulations upon the event of your marriage..."
