    1898 POST CARD WRITTEN BY CAPTAIN W. W. SPARKS OF THE WASHINGTON NATIONAL GUARD, VANCOUVER, TO A SOLDIER, "WILLIAM JOHNSON," LOCATED IN FISHER WASHINGTON, ADVISING OF THE PENDING VISIT OF THE ADJUTANT GENERAL TO MUSTER THE COMPANY, AND READS AS FOLLOWS: "Dear Sir, The Adj Gen, will be here Saturday evening to muster our Company, as a Company of National Guards. Don't fail to be present. Yours, W. W. Sparks." ~ ON 22 JULY 1898, GOVERNOR ROGERS DIRECTED ADJUTANT GENERAL WILLIAM J. CANTON TO RE-ESTABLISH A STATE FORCE IN CONFORMITY WITH THE MILITARY CODE OF WASHINGTON. THIS POST CARD IS DATED AUGUST 1898 AND SHOWS THAT GENERAL CANTON WAS IN THE PROCESS OF DOING SUCH. CAPTAIN W. W. SPARKS WAS COMMANDER OF FIRST REGIMENT COMPANY G VANCOUVER. ~ THE CARD MEASURES 5.50 X 3.25 INCHES.
