This is an interesting early letter written on April 6, 1898 by Ira (?) J. Dix a member of Company M, 2nd Regiment O. N. G. just after his arrival at Camp Bushnell near Columbus, Ohio. He writes: "Arrived in camp all O. K. Nobody hurt or nobody sick. Boys all enjoying themselves. We found our tents all up and plenty of straw to sleep on. We had lots of fun on the road. I am going to Columbus this morning and will mail this letter. We had bacon and eggs, coffee and bread. We don't know where or anything else about ourselves. It is said that our Regt will go to Washington New Port News or Chattanooga. I will write you more tomorrow. Your Son Ira". On the top of the letter there is a later endorsement that reads: "Wayne, this letter to your Gr Gr Mother Dr. Sadie E. Dix was from my Bro Dr. I. J. Dix who was in the Spanish Am. War, signed Grand Ma Riley Immis".
