This Sword 1853 Pattern 'NSBDA*'
Cavalry Troopers sword was used by Quarter Master Sergeant James Brennan who served in Company A, Lumsden’s Horse Regiment during the 2
nd
Boar War in South Africa in1900.
This saber is marked NSBDA on the front of the guard & Rodwell & Co .on the blade.
It is a1853 PATTERN CAVALRY TROOPER`S SWORD the blade stamped `Rodwell & Co. on the blade & the hilt stamped `N.S.B.D.A.` in a wavy frame, in a later steel-mounted leather scabbard. .
The blade is: 32 1/2" & the overall length is 39", iron guard & 2 piece leather grips.
It is in good & well used condition with the iron guard having some light pitting & the blade is still shiny.
The scabbard also in good condition with the black leather intact without any cracks or splits & the stitching is intact.
It was bought directly from the Brennan family many years ago & was part of a small but quality collection of British weapons, I bought it from the estate of the collector.
It comes with a certificate of authenticity, a hand written note from the estate sale when I bought it & historical research.
*The NS BDA could stand for Baroda or Baruda, the second largest independent Indian kingdom under the British Raj after Hyderabad.
NOTE The post office now charges a surcharge of .00 for packages over 30 inches! This is why the shipping is a little high!
Don't blame me for this, it is a post office regulation!
