    Description

    This is a seven medal United States Spanish-American era medal group.  The first medal is a Philippine Insurrection Campaign medal, that has the original full wrapped, open C catch brooch and original ribbon drape.  The planchet is in excellent condition and is impressed on the bottom edge No.11514.  The medal comes with the original O ring ribbon bar; the second medal is the Cuban Occupation Service medal, that has the original full wrapped, open C catch brooch and original ribbon drape.  The planchet is in excellent condition and is impressed  on the bottom edge No.2505.  The medal comes with the original O ring ribbon bar;  the next medal is the WW1 Victory medal, which has the original full wrapped, rotating lock brooch and original ribbon brooch.  The planchet is in very good condition with some light staining on the edge;  the next medal is the 1910 issued United Spanish War Veterans membership medal, Type 3, numbered on the bottom ribbon holder #12459.  The medal is in excellent condition, but the flag ribbon drape shows some minor wear at the stars;  next is the Veterans of Foreign Wars Eighth Corps, with enameled 8 center, which has the original open C, split wrapped brooch and original ribbon drape.  The planchet is in excellent condition and has the rare enameled Eighth Corps insignia;  next medal is the Military Order of the Serpent, 1st Degree, which has the original open C, split wrapped brooch and original ribbon.  The planchet is in excellent condition and is hallmarked on the reverse "Colorado Badge & Novelty Co. Denver";  next is the Middletown, Pa. Camp Meade, 1898 encampment ladder badge, that is in very good condition.  The reverse is hallmarked "C M Robbins, Maker, Attleboro, MASS.
    This group of medals and badges were awarded and issued to 1st Sergeant
    Walter Schulze
    .  Mr. Schulze joined Company K, of the 6th Missouri Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was mustered into federal service on July 10, 1898, at St. Louis, MO.   The 6th Missouri served in the U.S. and Cuba, and he was mustered out, with his unit on May 10, 1899.  He later joined Company I, of the 2nd US Infantry, as a Sergeant, and served in the Philippines.  While still with the 2nd  US Infantry, he served in Cuba during the occupation from service dates July 1898 until May of 1902.  He was issued the Philippine Campaign medal while stationed at Fort Flagler, WA, in July of 1908 and issued the Cuban Occupation medal while stationed at Fort Mills, Philippines, in February of 1916.  The whereabouts of the Spanish War Service medal for service with the 6th Missouri, is unknown.
    I will provide a copy of the issue records, and archival acknowledgement cards for the Philippine, Cuban Occupation and Spanish War Service medal, a copy of his award letter for the Spanish War Service medal, and a General Index Card for service with the 6th Missouri Infantry.
