Harry Whitmore of Springfield was a member of the 2nd Massachusetts Regiment during the Spanish-American War. This lot includes 8 letters written by Whitmore to his family dating from June - August, 1898. One from June is postmarked Port of Tampa, Fla, while the remaining 7 were posted from Cuba in July & August. The 1st three shown were improvised by taking old envelopes, turning them inside-out & sewing them together. All of the letters appear to have been written in pencil & while faint are readable.
