Description
Beautiful large portrait of Captain George Parrott Walker (1845-1927) who commanded BatteryB, Georgia Light Artillery in the Spanish-American War. Walker, born in Charleston, South
Carolina, served the Confederacy in Company B, 1 st Georgia Infantry in 1861 and 1862, then in
the Chatham Artillery from 1863-1865. Walker remained in the Chatham Artillery in the 1870s
and 90s before being mustered into U.S. service for the Spanish-American War in 1898. Large
(about 13.5 X 11” total, with image size about 9 X 6”) size in good condition (one crack on
corner of mount, corners missing—see photo). Has “Captain George Walker” in period ink on
front, and “Captain George P. Walker Savannah Ga. Son of Robert Downy Walker Louisa
Arthur Pierce Grandson: Thomas Walker, Charleston, S.C. Rev. Reddick Pierce Uncle of
