    Product Description
    ARTIFACT:
Wonderful circa 1900 Admiral Dewey, Battle of Manila Bay Commemorative pressed glass pitcher by Beatty-Brady Glass Company of Steubenville, Ohio and Dunkirk, Indiana. The front features the bust of Admiral Dewey surrounded by a wreath and flanked with an Army and Navy soldier on either side. Just below the spout, is an eagle carrying a US Shield in its talons, the shield reads: “LIBERTY” and beneath it is embossed with Dewey's command to Gridley, captain of the flagship Olympia, to begin firing on the Spanish fleet when ready and reads: “GRIDLEY YOU MAY FIRE WHEN READY”. Just to the side of the handle, the pitcher features a scroll that reads: “OLYMPIA, McCULLOGH, PETREL, CONCORD, RALEIGH, BOSTON, BALTIMORE MANILA MAY 1ST, 1898”. Dewey sailed from Hong Kong to the Philippines, and destroyed the entire Spanish fleet located there, a total of ten ships, on May 1, without a single American loss of life.
