You are purchasing a rare glass paperweight created to celebrate the Dewey Triumph Arch which was located in NYC from 1899 - 1900. The arch was created for George Dewey to celebrate his naval victory over the Spanish at the Battle of Manila in the Philippines. The image of the arch, which was located on 5th Ave and 24th street in New York City is secured onto the base of the clear glass. There are a couple of dark spots in the image were there was wear. The glass is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Please check all the photos and feel free to ask any questions. The Arch was erected to celebrate Commodore George Dewey’s stunning naval victory over the Spanish at the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. This particular military achievement was of great importance as it established the United States as a global military power. The hero of the day, Admiral George Dewey, was treated to Roman-style festivities complete with a parade and a triumphal arch.
