Description
Grouping of Austin J. Avery who served in Companies C and M of the 8th US manual Philippine campaign medal and ribbons, WWI draft registration card and USWV camp rosters. From the limited research I do not know the chronology of his service but 8th Infantry and the 2nd US Cavalry served in Cuba and the Philippines. Avery was from Toledo, Ohio but moved to Inglewood, California later in life. The grouping consists of the following:
Philippine Campaign medal No. 14803 and two
ribbons.
1st photo is titled "THANKSGIVING DINNER C Co. 8th INF. HAVANA, Cuba".
2nd photo, cabinet card of Avery standing on left with friend. An 8 over a C can be seen on Avery's campaign hat.
3rd photo is a tintype of Avery on left with friend.
4th photo is of a group identified on the back. Appear to be cavalry (see soldier on left of photo). This photo was taken by a photographer from Junction City, KS so it was probably taken at Fort Riley.
The MANUAL OF GUARD DUTY dated 1893 with a "G2" and "No. 9" written in pen on the top.
USWV Egbert Camp No. 10, Toledo, Ohio member rosters from 1942 and 1951. Avery is listed in both.
Avery's registration certificate dated September 12, 1918.
A good research project.
