    RECREATION PARK
    San Francisco, California
    Two Recreation parks existed in San Francisco, where the city's PCL Seals played.  The first one was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake.  The second ballpark opened a year later in April 1907, a few blocks off Market Street.  The grandstand entrance was at Valencia and 15th streets.  With the exception of 1914 when the Seals moved to foggy Ewing Field near Golden Gate Park, the Seals played here at "Old Rec" until their new Seals Stadium debuted in 1931.  This is where the famous "booze cage" was, where hard-drinking, rowdy fans booed and sometimes tussled (no women were allowed).  The ballpark was built with warped lumber that creaked and cracked in the wind.  "Old Rec" was vintage the day it opened.  It was maligned and beloved alike
