Description
This is a full size medal from the US Naval Campaign - West Indies featuring William T. Sampson - Commander in Chief of the Expedition. It is named to Mark M. Sibley; grandson of the first Mayor of Detroit and a famed philanthropist in the area. He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Yosemite during the Spanish American War. The back of the medal reads "San Juan, Puerto Rico, June 28th."This is a superb piece of American history with excellent detail on the medal and a superb story of an individual it was named to.
It is in good condition overall - the clasp has notably snapped or been filed / removed from the medal, but I am unsure why.
