Numbered & Traceable Spanish War Service medal to a Brigadier General

Description

This is a low numbered (227) Spanish War Service medal.  It has the original full wrapped, barrel locking clasp brooch, and original ribbon, the ribbon is a little faded, but still in very good condition.  The planchet is also in very good condition.  There are a few small edge knocks, but the numbers can still be clearly read.

Park Alfonso Findley
.  Mr. Findley was born in Bloomfield, Iowa, on January 28, 1875.  He first joined the Iowa National Guard in July of 1891, as a Private, assigned to a Hospital Steward position.  He was a graduate of Drake University, class of 1895, where he earned his medical degree.  He was later promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and served with the 51st Iowa Infantry Regiment, serving from April to July, 1898.  He was later promoted to 1st Lt. and saw service in the Philippines with the 51st.  In 1916 he was a member of the 3rd Iowa Infantry Regiment, and served on the Mexican Border.  He later transferred to the Regular Army and was promoted to Captain of the 5th Cavalry, while stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas.   He saw service in WW1 with the 18th Ambulance Train.  In May of 1920 he was promoted to Major, Lt. Colonel in September of 1922 and Brig. General in April of 1930.  The 1927 American Medical Directory list him as a Physician assigned to the Court House in Des Moines, Iowa.  The 1930 US Census list him as living in Des Moines, with his occupation listed as Sheriff of Polk County, Iowa, and notes that he was a WW1 veteran (WW-sic).  In 1933 he was assigned a Chief of the Iowa Bureau of Criminal Investigation, but died in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 13, 1935, while still in service to the bureau.  He is buried at the Masonic Cemetery, in Des Moines, Iowa
