Description

Charles Augustine Craft was born in Kalama, Washington in 1875, son of a Surveyor. He had been living with his family in Multnomah,Oregon in 1898 when
he mustered in Portland, Oregon with the 2nd Regiment of the Oregon Volunteer Infantry. He was assigned to Co. F, and served in the Phillipine Islands during the Spanish American war, from 1-2 July 1898 to shortly before the unit was mustered out 7 Aug 1899 at the Presido, San Francisco, CA.  He was a stenographer before joining up, and was in the insurance business most of his life after service. He died in 1965.
These medals were issued to Veterans of the Phillipine campaign who:
Served beyond the date they were eligible for discharge (extended)
and we’re ashore in the Phillipine Islands between 4 Feb 1899 and 4 Jul 1902.
6200 were issued, beginning in 1906.
