    Ondulations
    Cake Stand / Bowl – 1930’s
From the famous French silversmith Christofle, this is a cake or fruit stand (a compotier) by the remarkable designer Luc Lanel in his renowned Ondulations pattern, (not to be confused with Christofle’s ‘Raised Cercles’ pattern).
This piece is listed in the Christofle catalogues of the 1930’s, model a707 and was discontinued after WWII since it is not listed in the 1950’s catalogues.
A beautifully balanced piece, it measures 2 1/8 inches (5.5 cms) high and the bowl is 9 5/8inches (24.5 cms) in diameter with the bottom of the stand 5 inches (12.6 cms) in diameter.
    It weighs almost 1.4 lbs.
The Christofle name and ‘O.C’ hall marks are under the lip of the bowl. The bowl’s rim is shaped with the famous ‘Ondulations’ style ribbing. The bowl is one smooth piece and was very likely destined for presentation of small cakes such as
    petits fours
    , biscuits or fruit.
It is in good condition overall with minor traces of surface wear, a very tiny dent on the top edge and one on the bottom edge, not very visible when the cake plate is displayed.
The Ondulations cake plate is one of the rarest and sleek pieces designed in the collection.
For collectors of Christofle ‘Ondulations’ silver, it is quite a rare piece and looks very handsome on any table.
