*Graduated Yale University Law School 1892
*Captain in the Spanish-American War
*Colonel of the 4th Ohio Infantry prior to WWI
*Served as a Colonel in the Inspector General's Department in the 37th Division during WWI
Excerpt taken from book included in sale (details below):  "
"Lieutenant Colonel Barger (spelled wrong in book) had entered the service in 1881 as a private in Company F of the Seventeenth Infantry; he was commissioned first lieutenant of Battery H, First Artillery, in March of 1890 and served with that unit until 1891.  He was then commissioned as a second lieutenant of Company-of the Fourteenth Infantry on 1st August, 1892, and served until 15th May, 1893.  He was commissioned lieutenant colonel of the Fourth Infantry on 10th June, 1892, and retired on 10th January, 1906, to be restored to the active list as colonel of the Fourth on 21st May, 1908.  On 22nd March, 1917, after having commanded that unit throughout its tour of Mexican Border duty, he was commissioned lieutenant colonel and detailed as inspector general of Ohio.  He remained with the division when it was mustered for federal service as inspector."
*Died in Texas in 1943--Grave moved in 1947 to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
*Wrote book
The Laws and Customs of Riot Duty: A Guide for National Guard Officers and Civil Authorities, with Commentaries on Federal Aid

Spanish-American War Veteran Flag Pin 1898-1902:
Numbered on back of top portion 5837. Looks Hand Sewn. Excellent Condition with no tears or holes in the flag. Some very slight yellow staining on Flag. Some mild darkening on the medal parts themselves and may just need a cleaning.

Republique Francais 1870 (front) Honneur Et Patrie (back):
Hand sewn on back. Very nice condition. Needs a slight cleaning. On the green wreathe area, just a minute amount of the green paint has worn off, but its hardly noticeable. The red flag is in very clean condition, with no tears or holes. There may have been a top bar that is either missing or there was not one. There are pins on the back where it was possibly attached to a frame.

Addressed to Colonel Byron L. Bargar P.O. Box #82 Brownsville, Texas. Reads: "There is forwarded herewith a diploma showing the award to you of the Belgian Croix De Guerre, which diploma was recently forwarded to the War department through the Military Attache, United States Embassy, Paris, France. The following is a translation of the diploma: [Kingdom of Belgium, The Minister of National Defense has the honor to inform Lietenant Colonel Byron L. Bargar, Head-quarters, 37th Division, that, by Royal Decree No. 6624, of the 22nd of January, 1919; he particularly distinguished himself by his courage during the victorious offensive in Flanders. (Signed) Albert Deveze.] By order of the Secretary of War: HG Walthall (?) Adjutant General

The 37th Division IN THE WORLD WAR 1917-1918
signed inside by John A. Allen Captain Infantry 37 Div. A.E.F.--Captain John Allen was Colonel Bargar's son-in-law, where on page 60 Colonel Byron L.
