US SPANISH AMERICAN JAMES H MCGEE SHOULDER STRAPS, MEDALS, PICTURES GROUPING. This is a large grouping named James Henry McGee. 1. James infantry shoulder straps, blue and white. For a short time, white shoulder straps were issued. However, the men didn't like the white, so they went back to blue. Jame's name is on the back of the white straps. 2. A copy of his black & white picture in uniform signed 1900 James Henry McGee. The picture measures 6 1/8 x 4 3/8 inches. 3. A newspaper copy of James H. McGee's death notice. James died suddenly on April 12, 1939, at the U.S. Veterans hospital in Togus, ME. Mr. McGee was well known in veterans circles in ME. During the war with Spain, Mr. McGee served with Company "A' of the Ninth Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted May 4, 1898, and was discharged November 26, 1898. Mr. McGee was active in Dwewin camp and Manchester post No. 744, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a past commander of both organizations and served as quartermaster of the Spanish War Veterans' group at the time of his death. He was department commander of the U.S.W.V. less than five years ago, serving until July 1934. 4.There are twelve newspaper clippings about the veterans of foreign wars from The Leader, Manchester, N.H. from 1932 through 1940. 4. There are twenty-seven total old pictures with some writing under the pictures. One picture is the "Wreck of U.S. Battleship Maine in Havana Harbor." Another picture is "Cruiser Brooklyn in Havana Harbor." Finally, there are six pictures of "Bone Yard in Havana Cemetery." The rest of the pictures are tourist pictures. 5. There are fifteen ribbons from 1929 to 1940. Six of the ribbons have his name on them. Two ribbons have the wife's name on them, Theresa McGee. One ribbon is Dedication World War Memorial May 30, 1929, Victory Park Manchester N.H. There are three button pins, MISS V.F.W.N.H. AUXILIARY 1936, VETERANS FOREIGN WARS 1935 ENCAMPMENT PROGRAM DOVER N.H., a woman's picture on the NAVAL NORFOLK VIRGINIA, button pin. One ribbon is torn at the top, please see the pictures. This grouping also included his hat, which I have listed on item 254954921180, and his two ribbons that I will also list separately. These items don't have his name on them; however, they came with the grouping. Please look at all the pictures as they are part of the description. From my personal collection I'm selling my collection that I have been collecting for more than 50 years. I am selling due to my age. My passion is history, and I desire that my vintage militaria items go to collectors so that our past lives on and the items will continue to be preserved. Many many years ago, a collector friend of mine came over to see my collection. He said to me, "you do not own these items; they are simply on loan to you until another collector buys your items to enjoy and preserve." Years later, I have realized just how exact his words were. 1. James infantry shoulder straps, blue and white. For a short time, white shoulder straps were issued. However, the men didn't like the white, so they went back to blue. James name is on the back of the white straps.
