Spanish American War 1896 Artillery Hat Insignia 43rd Coastal Artillery

Description

Here is a very nice artillery hat insignia that was of the type worn during the Spanish American War. The insignia initially had a curved appearance from 1896 until 1900, and later examples appeared more flat. This is the first pattern insignia, and was produced for only 4 years - although it's likely that existing supplies were worn after 1900. This example was used by a member of the 43rd Coastal Artillery.
The insignia remains in very good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. General oxidation is evident. The original nut is present. The screw post shows some minor wear, which effects the smooth twisting of the nut - leaving it someone loose. It is otherwise structurally sound and displays beautifully.
