    Description

    This is a very nice Spanish American War Model 1878 U.S.M.C. Marine Corps marked canteen with leather sling the is in excellent condition. The iron body is with a fine khaki colored canvas cover and complete with the cork stopper and chain. The cover is marked, “U.S.M.C.” on the front side but this is very light and hard to see, but definitely there. The close-up photo has been enhanced to make the marking more visible. There are no dents to the body of the canteen and virtually no stains to the front cover. There are some water stains on the reverse side. The lower part of the reverse cover is marked, “313”. The canteen is complete with its correct leather sling which remains strong and pliable. It is attached to the body by having its brass end hooks secured to the triangular sling hooks on either side. This canteen was purchased together with the Spanish American War U.S.M.C. marked haversack and M1874 Meat Can listed elsewhere on this site.
