    Description

This listing is for Spanish American war lot.  This is a cabinet photograph of man in military uniform.  It comes with an original Philippine Insurrection Medal of Service.  As you can see, the ribbon is in poor condition but the medal looks great. I was going to try to repair ribbon but decided to leave it is the original condition. The photo is in fairly good condition.  The actual photo is approximately 4' x 2 1/2" on cardboard stock "frame".  I cannot read the photo studio name but the second line says Hampton, VA. The back gives the name of the soldier.  This is actually my grandmother's half-brother.  I looked him up to get additional information and there is information on the "find a Grave" site that shows he is buried in Florida, Pvt. Robert P. Keefer.  The site also shows he was  approved for a headstone provided by the military.  ****You can also like k n Find a Grave, using his name, birth year 1872 and death 1945, so you can view records yourself. It says he was in Battery G with the 3rd US Artillery.  I tried to look for additional information and it looks like the Third Regiment of the Artillery, Batteries G, H, K and L were sent to Manila for a brief engagement in 1899.  I read that 2 officers and 21 men were killed and 3 officers and 76 men were wounded.   I think he may have enlisted in Illinois as he and his brother lived there for awhile.  I think I read a letter where they both worked for the railroad in Pullman, Illinois.  I once had a letter that his brother wrote to my grandmother about Bob enlisting but unfortunately, I threw it away during downsizing.  Anyway, these are interesting items for a military collection. *** On the back of the photo, it names this person as Richard Keefer, who is as Robert’s brother. This will inscription is newer and added at a much later date. It is incorrect as this is Robert. I am currently downsizing and listing some family items.  I hope this finds a good home.  Also, I do not accept returns so please review all photos before bidding.  I will only ship within the United States. Thanks for looking.
