Superb Original 1896 Dated Krag M1892 Bayonet & Scabbard

Description

Offered is an original bayonet United States military M1892 bayonet and scabbard manufactured for the Krag Jorgensen rifle. This bayonet was made in 1896, as is clear from the date marking at the based of the blade and is correctly US marked on the opposite side of the blade. The minty, unissued condition blade on this superb bayonet retains its factory edge and tip, having never been sharpened. The arsenal grips have superb texture and coloring and are free from cracks, splits, or chips and the dome-head rivets are present and unmolested. While the birds head pommel shows some mild patina from age (125 years of it!), there is no pitting and has never had any rust. The lock/release button functions exactly as it should. The original scabbard is in similarly superb, essentially unissued condition. It is dent free and retains nearly all of its factory original blue finish. The swivel functions freely. Overall, a very difficult rig to upgrade in condition and with a date seen far less commonly than the later dates. This has been in my collection for many years.
