    Description

This is a Spanish-American War/Philippine Insurrection Campaign medal group.  The group includes a Marksman ladder shooting badge that has the top bar Army style "MARKSMAN" brooch, the next bar is the oval target bar, the next bar is the 1911 REVOLVER marksman, the next bar is the 1911 REVOLVER sharpshooter, the next bar is the 1911 MARKSMAN, and the last bar is the SHARPSHOOTER, and the plachet is the Army style Sharpshooter badge.  The reverse shows the T-bar open C catch brooch pin on the top bar, and includes the hallmarking of "shreve & co/sterling, with the bottom Sharpshooter bar that also has a T-bar open C catch brooch pin.  The ladder shooting badge is in excellent condition;  the group includes the Spanish War Service medal, that has the original swivel locking clasp brooch, but it appears that the ribbon is in older and longer replacement ribbon drape.  The planchet is in very good condition and the numbers (1754) are well struck, clear and easy to read; the group includes the Army Philippine Insurrection Campaign medal, which has a Spanish War Service pin-back ribbon bar attached to the back of the ribbon.  The ribbon drape appears to be the original drape, and the planchet is in very good condition.  The numbers are well struck (M.No.3011) and it has been engraved "R.R. SINDT (M.No.3011) 26th U.S. INFTY";  includes a Iowa National Guard 5 Year service medal that has the original pin-back, open C catch brooch, and original ribbon drape.  The ribbon does show some wear near the ribbon ring, but it still holds and hangs the eagle planchet.  The planchet is number on the reverse 2006, however, the Iowa National Guard apparently did not keep issuance records for these numbered service medals;  includes a Company I, 26th US Infantry bugle/musician hat badge, but is missing the screwback attachment device;  includes a VFW lapel pin with a screwback attachment.  The group also includes his post card photograph which shows him wearing the Philippine Insurrection Campaign medal.  The photograph does have some glue residue on the back.
This group of medals/badge was awarded and issued to
    Robert Rogers Sindt
.  Mr Sindt was born in Davenport, Iowa, on July 22, 1878.  He first enlisted with Company B, of the 50th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment in 1897, but was mustered into federal service in May of 1898.  He served with Company B, until mustered out of service in November of 1898.  He continued his service with the Iowa National Guard until January of 1901 when he enlisted with Company I of the 26th US Infantry.  He served in the Philippines and was honorably discharged in January of 1904, at Fort Brown, TX.  He then reenlisted with the Iowa National Guard that same year and served another 8 years.  In the summer of 1915, he began a patriotic walk in fully authorized Army uniform, from Davenport, to San Diego, CA, speaking to college students about establishing ROTC units on campuses.  He returned to Davenport, IA after a 6,000 plus mile walk.  He died on December 18, 1945, and is buried at the Rock Island National Cemetery, in Rock Island, IL.
