Original U.S. Army (Experimental) Lanz Canteen. Inventor George Lanz Manufacture & Contractor - Chicago, Ill. for leather goods. Made U.S. Cavalry Saddle Bags & Army pistol holsters, etc. The bottom half of the canteen is laced up so it can be opened to the felt inside which can be wetted to cool the contents.
Canteen has some light stains and a couple of frayed spots. See HISTORY OF THE MILITARY CANTEEN By Lt. Col. Philip Reade - Washington, D.C. 1901 - pages 29,30 & 31.
