U.S. M-1874 Field Gear Canteen Cup 1874-WW1

Description

The Infantry Equipment Board of 1874 recommended a standard cup be issued by the Ordinance Department. These were made of tinned iron with a rolled top edge and a rolled edge handle riveted on over the back seam. This one has the distinctive U.S. embossed on the handle top. Their use would have been during part of the Spanish American war and through the Indian wars. They continued in use till the beginning of World War 1.
