Outstanding United Spanish War Veterans flag, flag staff, finial, and tarred canvas flag case! Among Spanish American War veterans flags, this is among the nicest we've had the pleasure to own!
This is a high quality, two-sided flag with gold fringe along the border. The blue side bears the likeness of the USWV membership badge at its center, with "PETER E. HENCHEY CAMP NO. 9"/ "Instituted June 25, 1927" at the top of the flag. The lower portion states the location of this camp as "Greenwich, R.I"/"United Spanish War Veterans". The white side of the flag bears the same information, but with the Rhode Island state seal at its center. What is especially nice about this example is the hand painted lettering, which shows a wonderful amount of age and originality. The style and tone are reminiscent of the lettering found on Civil War and firemen flags. Just a wonderful example that would compliment any quality Spanish American War collection!
The flag comes with its original oak flag staff, brass spade-point finial, and the tarred canvas storage case, which is marked on the inside as having belonged to a Spanish War Veterans post. The staff looks to have been cut down at one point.. This is a large piece, so shipping will be approximately - should this be an overestimate, we will gladly refund the difference.
The flag remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. Scattered areas of soiling and age is evident. The case shows quite a bit of drying and is somewhat stiff.
