You are bidding a bronze United Spanish War Veterans (USWV) Membership Badge or medal.
The medal is numbered “A5513.
The top of the medal has a “rank strap” for a serving officer in the position of Senior Vice (S. V.) Camp Commander.
This is attached to a vertically hanging American flag ribbon with a light blue border.
The light blue border indicates a serving or past officer of a local camp or post.
Attached to the bottom of the ribbon is a bronze piece consisting of a crossed cavalry saber, an infantry rifle, and a naval anchor all super imposed over a cannon barrel.
Attached to this piece is a bronze cross, with the four arms (clockwise from the top), reading: “CUBA”, “PORTO RICO”, “USA”, and “PHILIPPINE ISLANDS”. This cross also contains the dates the words “SPANISH WAR VETERANS” and the dates “1898-1902”.
On the reverse side of the cross the four arms read (clockwise from the top): “N”, “E”, “S”, and “W”.
At the center of the cross is a field of five-pointed stars and vertical stripes with the word “UNITED”.
The medal measures about 4 1/2 inches high by about 1 9/16 inches wide.
It is in very good to excellent condition.
