Uss Battleship Maine Relic Bell Pan American Expo 1901 Buffalo New York. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS First Class. Souvenir bell made from salvaged metal from the battleship Maine. These were sold for one dollar each at the 1901 expo in Buffalo New York and later at the worlds fair in St. Louis Missouri in 1904. 3.75 inches tall in great shape complete with ringer and has been tastefully polished. I did not polish it but it looks really nice I would just let it tone back naturally without leaving any finger marks on it. As we all know the battleship Maine was at the flashpoint of the Spanish-American war. It is unknown Quite exactly what caused the ship to blow up but of course Spain got the blame because for the trouble in Cubs and the political climate at the time. Probably a coal fire in the coal bin? This metal was at the very flashpoint that propelled the United States onto the world stage and expelled the last of the European powers from the Western Hemisphere and at the same time making the United States a world power. Also the 1901 expo was where president McKinley was assassinated… Maybe this bell was there at the time?
