Description

These machete's were used as early as the Spanish American War in Cuba, but were also frequently used during World War I.   This is a massive machete, certainly able to cut through dense foliage, bamboo or jungle vines.
The sheath is original, and clearly shows the embossing running down the length of the sheath.  There appears to be a "burn spot" at a single area on the sheath.  The belt loop is still intact, but shows some cracking and fraying of the leather,  All brass rivets are intact.
The handle has some age cracks, but is solid with no movement.  The handle appears to be rosewood, and shows an early repair to one tip of the handle.
The bolo/machete is unmarked, but is certainly made by Collins, an early company which produced axes, machetes, Navy cutlasses, bayonets, adzes, bush hooks, numbering over 150 different products.
The blade still retains much of its original polish, and sharpness.  This is a rare and significant military piece which represents two major wars.  The Spanish American War and World War I.
